A man is dead after a crash between a car and a train on Sunday afternoon. Pennsylvania State Police were called to the scene of a reported crash between a car and a train around 12:40 p.m. on Railroad Street and Spruce Street in Herndon Borough. They found the driver of a Subaru Forester had attempted to enter through the railroad crossing when a Norfolk Southern train struck the vehicle. State police have identified the victim as 74-year-old Darwin Whitmer of Dalmatia. The injuries he received in the crash were deadly, according to state police. Whitmer was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
