Dallas diver Megan Kuzma is the top seed, and Scranton Prep junior Rebecca Oakes grabbed a pair of top-eight seeds, with the psych sheets being released Monday morning for the PIAA Swimming and Diving Class 2A Championships.
Abington Heights diver Micah White, who set a record with his gold medal score of 543.15, is the highest-seeded athlete for the Class 3A Championships. He is second to Bethlehem Freedom senior Cody Smith, who won the District 11 championship with a score of 598.75.
The Class 3A meets are scheduled for March 11-12, and the Class 2A meets are on March 13-14 at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium.
Kuzma, a state-medal winner last season, had the best score among the qualifiers with her 508.40, which won the District 2 Class 2A championship. Hampton senior Gab Elk, the District 7 champion, is the No. 2 seed with a score of 470.15. Dallas’ Brynlee Tabor, the District 2 silver-medal winner, is seeded eighth (390.60).
The top eight finishers earn medals at the state championship meet. In swimming events, the top eight times from the preliminary races reach the medal final. The next eight swim in the B final.
Oakes, also a state-medal winner from last season, is among the top eight seeds in the two events she won at the District 2 Class 2A Championships at the Wilkes-Barre CYC. The junior is fourth in the 100 butterfly (57.87), with Hampton senior Lainey Sheets first (54.21), and is sixth in the 100 free (52.78), with Winchester Thurston senior Thea Siegel first (51.11).
In addition to Oakes’ individual events, she is part of the Scranton Prep 200 medley relay team, which is seeded second (1:49.40) to Shady Side Academy (1:48.18). She is also a member of the 200 free relay team, which is seeded fifth (1:40.48), with Franklin Regional seeded first (1:36.80).
Scranton Prep’s Eva Kaszuba, also a member of the two relay teams, is seeded second in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.60). Schuylkill Valley junior Mabel Walborn is the No. 1 seed (1:03.77), and Scranton Prep’s Ella Schofield is seeded sixth (1:05.65).
Dallas freshman Locklynn Bienkowski seeded third in the 200 individual medley (2:09.86). Shady Side Academy’s Ava Jochims (2:01.36) and Cathedral Prep’s Jaslene Cage (2:09.27) are the top two seeds. Bienkowski is also the No. 9 seed for the 500 free (5:14.16).
Dallas teammate Maria-Lucia Priore is the No. 5 seed for the 100 backstroke (58.34). Hampton’s Lainey Sheets is the top seed (54.94). The Dallas 400 free relay is seeded sixth (3:40.77), with Shady Side Academy being the top seed (3:33.06).
Boys Class 2A
Scranton Prep’s Lukas Iannone is seeded among the top eight in both of his events for the Class 2A boys meet.
Iannone is third in the 200 IM (1:54.81), with Northgate senior Sam Cavanaugh first (1:50.77) and Adrian Lavorini second (1:54.77). He is also seeded fourth in the 100 backstroke (51.36). Schuylkill Valley is the No. 1 seed for the backstroke (48.85).
Tunkhannock’s stable of swimmers will be among the top overall teams in Class 2A.
Jaden Baltrusaitis is seeded as the No. 1 seed in the 100 free (46.57), with Donegal’s Colton Houck, the District 3 champion (46.57). Baltrusaitis is also seeded seventh in the 50 free (21.43), while teammate Kyle Kozloski is the sixth seed (47.20).
Tunkhannock is the second seed for the 200 free relay (1:27.56), with Cathedral Prep first (1:27.01). The Tigers are the No. 4 seed for the 400 free relay (3:14.94), with Schuylkill Valley first (3:11.30).
Tunkhannock diver Blayne Roosa is seeded seventh (439.65).
Class 3A
Abington Heights senior Derek Williams is the lone District 2 swimmer who is seeded among the top eight for a race in the boys meet. He is No. 8 with his school-record time of 21.04 in the 50 free. Mars Area’s Dom Davis is the top seed (20.26).
The girls’ Class 3A psych sheets were not released.
