For one Ohio couple, Lake Erie will hold a special place in their heart forever.
Megan and Jordan Beck, who met in 2020 and bonded over their love for ice fishing, decided to tie the knot in a unique place: over the ice at Lake Erie, according to ABC affiliate WEWS.
The couple said they began planning for their wedding in October. The ceremony was held about 100 yards from the dock of Put-in-Bay, a small island near Toledo, Ohio over the Feb. 21 weekend.
What they envisioned was a ceremony with ice to signify their shared love for the winter and the cold-weather activities that come with it — and that is exactly what they got.
“I got a wedding dress, wore a veil, all that stuff, and Jordan was nice enough to set up a pop-up shanty out there for my bridal suite,” Megan told the outlet.
“So, I had a little buddy here and there. I was hanging out in the 80-degree weather in that little pop-up before my dad took me down the aisle,” she added.
Videos obtained by WEWS of the ceremony showed Megan exiting the orange shanty clad in a white silk wedding dress with a matching white fuzzy wrap over it with her father by her side. The bride wore her hair up in an intricate bun for the ceremony.
The dress ended at her heels to make it easy for her to walk over the ice as her father led her to the makeshift aisle, which appeared to be made up from green leaves.

A wooden arch stood at the center with a wedding officiant standing underneath it alongside the groom, dressed in a black suit with matching shoes. The guests did not sit down for the wedding ceremony, but instead stood on either side of the aisle in winterwear as they watched the couple exchange vows.

The couple’s wedding creativity was praised by one WEWS reporter who said on the broadcast, “I love this. How different is this? I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“It’s a jaw-dropping moment,” another reporter added. “I wonder what went into making sure the ice was just thick enough for everyone to stand there? It scares me just a little bit, but I’m glad everything went well.”
As for what’s next for Megan and Jordan, they told WEWS that they hope to buy a house on Put-in-Bay island and start a family together.
