EASTON, Pa. – A trial is set to begin Monday in Northampton County for the New Jersey man accused of killing three people in 2022 while driving under the influence of marijuana.

A teenage girl and her parents were killed.

Jury selection is set to wrap Monday afternoon and then the trial for Nelson Segura will begin shortly after.

Segura faces multiple charges, including homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol and controlled substance, and other related offenses.

State Police say in 2022, Segura was driving a box truck along Route 33 northbound in Bushkill Township, Northampton County.

Officials say he told them he didn’t have enough time to brake and slammed into the rear of a stopped Toyota Rav 4.

Inside that car, was a family of three — including a teenage girl — who had just moved to the Poconos.

Police say Darrell Robinson, his wife Alexis Robinson, and their 16-year-old daughter Tahlia Robinson were all killed.

A trooper on scene says Segura told them he didn’t see the car at all.

The officer says Segura was observed to have bloodshot eyes and was acting nervous, repeatedly asking police if he will be charged in the crash.

Upon searching the truck, police say they found several blunt packages and a marijuana cigar in the cab of the truck.

During a sobriety test, police say they saw signs that Segura was impaired and a blood test showed THC in his system.
