PITTSBURGH, PA — The owners of a Western Pennsylvania apiary say they plan to regroup and rebuild after tens of thousands of bees died in a fire that was deliberately set.

The incident occurred Thursday at the Bedillion Honey Farm in Hickory, Washington County.

“Today our hearts are heavy,” a post on the farm Facebook post stated. “Tens of thousands of honey bees turned to ash, along with the boxes and pallets they were once housed in. This was a significant loss of animal life, as well as the principle of our livelihood.”

The Bedillion Honey Farm has been around since 2004. The family owned farm offers locally sourced pure honeys and beeswax, as well as specialty honeys sourced from beekeepers throughout the country.

A police report has been filed, and the farm asks that anyone with pertinent information regarding the arson to contact Mark Bedillion at 724-747-4645, by text or call. A $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of this person or persons is being offered.
