A Scranton woman attempted to grab an officer’s taser as she was being arrested for disorderly conduct, police said .

At about 2 p.m. on Oct. 17, officers were called to 405 S. Main St. for a disorderly female who was banging on an apartment door for over five minutes.

According to the criminal complaint, when officers arrived they found Cinthia Ortiz standing in the hallway pointing to an apartment, indicating drug dealers live there.

She told officers her keys were in the apartment and they returned the keys to her, which she then dropped on the floor.

Officers noted Ortiz, 40, of 1201 Sloan St., didn’t live in the building and wasn’t welcome at the apartment.

Ortiz then went outside and, standing behind her car, began yelling and refused to leave. Children who were walking home from school at that time could hear Ortiz yelling. Ortiz’s speech was slurred and her gait was unsteady, police said.

Officers informed Ortiz she was being arrested for disorderly conduct, but she wouldn’t comply and had to be lifted into the patrol vehicle.

Once at headquarters, she again became disorderly. As Officer Eric Jordan attempted to book her, she grabbed his taser and attempted to take it out of the holster. It took several officers to subdue her.

Ortiz faces a felony charge of attempting to disarm a police officer, as well as charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. She remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 27 before District Judge Joanne Corbett.
