Albert Petrucci

OBITUARY

Albert Petrucci, a Bunker Hill legend, has passed from this mortal coil on the eighth anniversary of his son ‘s Salvatore passing and only a few weeks away from celebrating his 90th birthday.

Albert passed away under hospice care on February 21st in California near his beloved daughter Lisa and her family.

An absolute giant of a personality and man who approached life with what the Italians call “La Doce Vita” (The Good Life of Simple Pleasures), Albert ‘contained multitudes’ – the phrase Walt Whitman used in his poem, “Song of Myself” from Leaves of Grass to describe humans. All those complex often contradictory and expansive parts of what a person embodies. Sometimes conflicting, but always engaging.

He approached life with bravo and gusto. For like the old Sportswriter Red Smith once wrote, “Dying is no big deal, the least of us will achieve that, the trick is in living.”

Born in Bunker Hill section of Scranton, he was the first son of Rose (Luongo) Petrucci and Salvatore Petrucci. He was also preceded in death by his only sibling, a younger brother Jerry. Albert was educated in Scranton Schools and graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany post WWII.

After returning home from overseas he became a longtime policeman for the City of Scranton. He married Audrey (Adomiak) Petrucci and had three children.

During the 1970’s he and his family ran Petrucci’s Bar and Grill in the upper Hill Section of Scranton. They proceeded to introduce for the first time to a mainly German and English neighborhood the taste and joy of Italian Cooking.

After retiring, Albert proceeded to build an amazing transportation business. He drove many individuals to airports around the country. Often having clients who eventually became great lifetime friends, many were of the Jewish Faith.

One of his favorite things to do was share his finds with all his family and friends, especially pastries and food. He was especially fond of the St. Ann’s Novena, praying the rosary, and his home Bunker Hill Parish of St.Rocco’s.

During the 1990’s he was proud to help his daughter Lisa in her grocery business and proud of his son Salvatore’s dental practice and the starting of a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Malibu, California.

Later in his life he was often in the company of his longtime friend and ‘adopted’ son, Anthony DiLeo. He was immensely proud of his six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mikey, Bianca, Nicholas, Noah and Isabella. He was often in the company of his large network of cousins, especially Nick and Patty Luongo.

Albert moved to Lake Worth and Delray Beach, Florida, at the end of his life.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Audrey (Adomiak) Petrucci; his son, Salvatore Petrucci; his brother, Jerry Petrucci; and parents, Rose and Salvatore. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Bruno and husband Michael of Moorpark, California, and Jeffrey Petrucci and partner Kristin Crowley of South Abington Twp.

The family would also like to thank Domenica at Royal Oaks Hospice for exemplary kindness.

Pending funeral service arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge. Please visit the funeral home’s website for updates, directions and to leave a condolence.
