LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — With the spring season underway, Indiana (Pa.) collected a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors, as Derrick Shields and Lea von Kozierowski each earned the first weekly award of their Crimson Hawk careers.
Shields, a senior right-hander from Pittsburgh, delivered a dominant outing on the mound in IUP’s win over Salem. He tossed six innings of one-hit baseball, shutting out the opposition while striking out four. The lone free pass he allowed came by way of a hit by pitch.
On the tennis courts, von Kozierowski secured a hard-fought victory at No. 1 singles in a marathon match that lasted nearly three hours. She defeated Findlay’s Anamarija Kovacevic in three sets, opening with a 7-6 (11-9) tiebreak win in the first set. After dropping the second set 3-6, von Kozierowski rebounded to claim the decisive third set, 6-4. Kovacevic entered the match after earning a national ranking last season.
The weekly honors mark a strong start to the spring slate for the Crimson Hawks.
