READING, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police say more victims could be discovered in a burglary case that shocked many across Berks County.
Investigators say 39-year-old Derrick Raker searched obituaries online and then targeted the homes of the deceased.
Police say the alleged burglaries happened between June and September 2025, across multiple townships in Berks County and one in Lebanon County.
Troopers say the case expanded after Raker was arrested during a burglary in progress last fall. Investigators say he targeted valuables, including guns.
Now, police are warning families to take precautions when managing a loved one’s estate.
“If you are in a position where you are taking care of an elderly relative, it is always a good thing to know the valuables that are inside of their houses,” said Trooper Ethan Brownback, spokesperson for the State Police. “Taking pictures of them could never be a bad idea, especially firearms.”
