A possible threat against Pittburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor is being investigated by Pittsburgh Public Safety and Allegheny County EMS.

The threat was broadcasted over radio EMS and Pittsburgh Police transmission, and reportedly threatened Mayor O’Connor directly as well as playing pro-Nazi songs.

The police scanner system is thought to have been hacked, allowing the message to be played and interrupting police communications for a short time.

The source of this broadcast is still under investigation, with no known suspects listed at this time. Mayor O’Connor is reported as safe, with heightened security likely in the following days.

Threats against the Mayor are uncommon, but not unheard of. Mayor Bill Peduto and then City Councilman Corey O’Connor received death threats over the proposed gun legislation changes in response to the Tree of Life Synogauge shooting in 2018, which killed 11 worshippers. This attack is known as the deadliest antisemetic attack in U.S. history. O’Connor was an avid and outspoken supporter of said gun legislation changes.
