Carbondale Area Junior/Senior High School Computer Club members recently participated in the second annual Data Science Day at the University of Scranton.

After breakfast, they received a tutorial on data visualization using the R programming language. Next, they participated in a rigorous data science competition in which students analyzed a dataset using the R programming language. They completed the event in teams of two and had 70 minutes to complete as many questions regarding data given about palm trees as possible.

After lunch, Stephen Sorokanich from Air Force Research Laboratories in Rome, New York, gave a keynote presentation. He spoke about the rapidly developing field of quantum computing.
