SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — The Scranton Public Library is now selling its own Community Cookbook, a collection of recipes submitted by local patrons.
The Community Cookbook costs $10, with proceeds going toward the library’s programs and services.
The book includes 68 recipes: 15 starters, 24 main dishes and 29 desserts. Martina Soden, head of reference at the Scranton Public Library, said the cookbook includes a range of dishes, from local fare to recipes with origins in South Asia, the Mediterranean, the British Isles and around the United States.
Soden said the project was designed to showcase the community’s roots, from the city’s early days to today.
“So Scranton has a wide ethnic community, so it’s wonderful to showcase our beginnings in the 1800s to now and all of the different immigrants who have made up Scranton and made us who we are. It’s nice to have a wide variety of recipes to show our diverse culture,” said Soden.
The cookbooks went on sale Monday and are available at the Nancy Kay Holmes Library, the Lackawanna County Children’s Library and the Albright Memorial Library.
Soden said submissions are closed for this edition, but the library could consider a second volume if there is enough interest.
