PITTSTON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Coffee Inclusive hosted its monthly Autism Cooking Program on Wednesday night in Pittston, offering young adults with autism a hands-on class focused on building practical kitchen skills.

The program meets the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Coffee Inclusive, 350 Kennedy Blvd.

Brian Boston, the instructor for Coffee Inclusive’s Autism Cooking Program, said he enjoys teaching and wants participants to leave with real culinary skills.

“I went to LCC and helped with cooking classes there, so this is second nature to me and something I like to do. Programs like this are great because they help teach people, so they can make their own food at home and even teach others,” said Boston.

The menu changes month to month, often built around seasonal themes and upcoming holidays. Wednesday’s class included shamrock shakes and chicken salad.

Boston adds that the program has fostered essential kitchen skills, including mixing, baking and preparing healthy meals in a supportive setting.

Over the past several months, the program has built a loyal following of participants. But the course is set to end in May, only one year after its debut.

Boston and other event organizers are looking for sponsors and donations to continue funding the program.

The next session is scheduled for April 1. For more information, visit Coffee Inclusive’s Facebook page.
