Jenkins Township Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday, March 30, at the Jenkins Township Hose Company #2, 2 St., Jenkins Twp., to review a proposed amendment to the township zoning ordinance regulating data centers.

Anyone with questions or comments about the proposed amendments, or who would like to know more about them, is encouraged to attend.

For anyone who can’t make it to the hearing, it will be livestreamed via the Township Facebook Page.

Any questions may be emailed to [email protected] and must be received by 4 p.m. Friday, March 27.

Residents who wish to see the full text of the ordinance can do so by visiting the Township Municipal Bldg. Office, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, according to a meeting notice posted to the township’s Facebook page.

Additionally, copies of the full text of the ordinance amendment are also available at the Law Library located in the Luzerne County Courthouse, 200 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre, during normal business hours.

Of note, the amendment would create a new use for data centers, create new definitions and additional regulations for said uses, including accessory uses and structures.

Assistant Zoning Officer Ronald Giza previously explained at the Feb. 11 meeting that the ordinance would create an overlay district where data centers would be permitted in the center point area of the township, on the other side of the turnpike.

The proposed ordinance would allow data centers as a conditional use, which means any applicant would have to go before the board of supervisors, and a public hearing must be held.

Additionally, the amendments would further regulate the site development for the data center overlay district, including permitted uses in a DCO Data Center Overlay District, Community and Fiscal Impact Analysis, as well as dimensional regulations and supplemental regulations.

According to township officials, no data center proposal or application has been submitted to the board of supervisors or the zoning officer.
