BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fans of wine, art and fun times with friends will soon have a new destination to frequent in Northampton County.
Unwine Vineyards & Art Emporium, a venue offering wine, beer and cocktails along with local artisan goods such as paintings, candles and herbal remedies, is expected to open in the fall at 309 E. Third St. in south Bethlehem, co-owner Mary Reshetar said.

The new venue, which has a target opening date of November, will occupy a roughly 350-square-foot spot on the ground floor of Taylor Flats, a newly constructed, five-story apartment complex at East Third and Taylor streets, next to Southside 313 Bar & Grille.
The enterprise is a comeback of sorts as Reshetar and her fiancé, Joel Ritter, previously operated their business’ original iteration – known as Unwine with Art – from 2019 to 2020 on North Second Street in downtown Easton.
Reshetar, a seasoned artist who enjoys working with paint, resins and other mediums, teamed up with Ritter to create a unique venue offering studio space for art instruction; a retail section for locally made works such as jewelry, pottery and paintings; and a wine bar serving Unwine Vineyards wines – made with grapes from Ritter’s 50-acre vineyard in the Finger Lakes region of central New York.

The pandemic led to the closure of Unwine’s original establishment, but Reshetar and Ritter have regrouped and are preparing to open their new venue soon.
“Just like Easton, Bethlehem is a beautiful and vibrant city that provides a perfect setting to bring our vision to life,” Reshetar told 69 News.
Reshetar, who holds a bachelor’s degree in art education from Mansfield University, has held a variety of creative roles over the years, including working as a production artist for clothier Blue Fish in Frenchtown, N.J., teaching art classes at YMCA of Bucks County’s Quakertown branch and running an art gallery in the Mananyunk section of Philadelphia.
For the past several years, she’s also worked as a coordinator for Bucks County Community College’s In-School Youth Program, assisting high school students with paid work experiences, college and workforce readiness and the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials.
“I absolutely love my job, helping students in Bucks County get jobs and keep jobs,” Reshetar said. “Art is definitely my side passion, though, and I can’t wait to share my artwork with the community and bring people together over food, drinks and music.”
Ritter, who has been making wine for about 20 years, is a retired Bedminster Township Police Department officer who has been teaching law enforcement classes at Upper Bucks County Technical School for the past several years.

When he’s not in the classroom, he enjoys harvesting his vineyard’s grapes and creating a wide array of wines that include Cayuga, Niagara, Catawba, Marquette, Riesling, Frotenac and La Crescent.
He also sources some grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Grigio, from prominent winemaking regions in California and Washington.
His vineyard, outside Marathon and about 30 miles east of Ithaca, has about 8,000 vines.
Unwine’s forthcoming Bethlehem location will feature 7-9 wines that guests can enjoy on-site or purchase to-go, Ritter said.
Customers will be able to enjoy wine tastings and also order glasses and bottles. Locally brewed beer and cocktails made with locally produced spirits also will be available.
“I’m excited to bring the community together again over great wine,” Ritter said. “In Easton, some of our big hits were Cayuga, Catawba and a blush blend.”
Unwine’s forthcoming Bethlehem location will operate within a few blocks of dozens of restaurants, including Hi Pot, Playa Bowls, Sizzling Bites and The Nest Bar & Grille, and guests will be welcome to bring their own food to enjoy with their drinks, Ritter said.

“We’re fortunate that we will be surrounded by so many great restaurants and places to eat in south Bethlehem,” Reshetar added. “So, people could bring their own food or have it delivered.”
The new tasting room and art emporium will feature a few tables and counter seating, and Ritter and Reshetar are also looking to offer some seasonal outdoor tables on the sidewalk.
Guests will be able to shop Reshetar’s paintings, salves, herbal tea, natural soy candles and more.
“It’s not a huge space, but there are 14-foot-high ceilings, which doesn’t make it feel cramped,” Reshetar said of the Bethlehem space. “I’ll be able to hang my artwork up high, and I’d also like to showcase some other artists’ work as well. We’ll be hosting small paint-and-sip events and other art workshops, and I also study herbalism and would love to host workshops on salves and the health benefits of certain herbs.”

“We’re hoping to tie in the local community as much as possible,” Ritter added. “There’s a charter arts high school nearby, and we’d love to showcase some of the students’ work in our space.”
The forthcoming Bethlehem venue is the latest chapter in Unwine’s comeback story.
Last year, the couple began pursuing plans to open an Unwine venue at 570 W. Cherry Road in Springfield Township. However, in June, the Springfield Township Zoning Hearing Board voted 2-1 to deny the application for a non-farm business use on the property.
Ritter and Reshetar’s disappointment following the board’s decision quickly took a back seat to their excitement for a new opportunity to bring the same concept to Bethlehem.
“We’re frustrated by the [Springfield Township Zoning Hearing] board’s rejection as well as comments from neighbors, who voiced their opposition to our project, because they really didn’t seem to understand our vision or business plan, which would’ve actually benefited the community a great deal,” Ritter said. “But their opposition turned out to be a blessing in disguise because Bethlehem suits our concept perfectly. The city, especially Bethlehem’s South Side, is full of life and new development.”
“We’re disappointed that we can’t bring our vision to life in Springfield Township, but we’re super excited to be switching gears and bringing our delicious wine, locally made products and fun vibes to Bethlehem,” Reshetar added. “The Bethlehem spot will have even more foot traffic and visibility on a major roadway, and we’ll have a bunch of great neighbors.”

Chinese dim sum restaurant opens in Bethlehem
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A new eatery is now serving chow mein, lotus leaf sticky rice, shrimp wonton noodle soup and other Asian specialties in Northampton County.
128, a full-service restaurant specializing in authentic Chinese dim sum, opened Friday, Aug. 15, at 128 E. Broad St. in Bethlehem, chef and owner Yiwen He said.
The restaurant offers seating for around 20 guests along with takeout service.
Dim sum is a traditional Chinese meal consisting of small plates or snack dishes, and guests are able to choose from options such as bean curd rolls, beef chow fun, siu mai and various dumplings and steamed rice rolls. Read more here.

PALMER TWP., Pa. – The Palmer Township Planning Commission reviewed a sketch plan on Tuesday for a proposed Chick-fil-A restaurant on South 25th Street.
The restaurant is being proposed at the location of the former Rite Aid in the Palmer Town Centre at 601 S. 25th St.
The plan calls for the complete demolition of the existing 13,000-square-foot building and the construction of a 5,483-square-foot Chick-fil-A with dual drive-thru lanes and 72 parking spaces. Full story here.

New ‘old-fashioned doughnut store’ set to heat up Lehigh Valley food scene
PALMER TWP., Pa. – A new sweet spot will soon welcome doughnut devotees in Northampton County.
No BS Donuts, offering a wide array of fresh, handmade daily doughnuts, will open in late August at 2439 Nazareth Road in Palmer Township, co-owner Bill Ciotola said.

New childcare center coming to Northampton County
FORKS TWP, Pa. – A new childcare center will soon take shape in Northampton County.
Construction is expected to begin later this year or early next year on a new location of The Learning Experience in Forks Township.

A family-run Mexican eatery in Allentown is expanding its footprint.
La Cocina del Abuelo, also known as Grandpa’s Kitchen, offering authentic Mexican dishes such as tacos, tortas and tostadas, is planning to open two additional locations in Bethlehem and Phillipsburg in the coming months, owner and chef Greenberg Lemus said.
The new locations will supplement La Cocina del Abuelo’s original, three-year-old restaurant at 621 W. Hamilton St. in downtown Allentown.
The forthcoming Bethlehem location is expected to open sometime in September at 81 W. Broad St., while the forthcoming Phillipsburg location is expected to open in November or December at 650 Memorial Parkway, Lemus said. Full story here.

Mexican eatery’s 2nd Lehigh Valley location, new bar and lounge opening next to each other
EASTON, Pa. – Fans of quesadillas and cocktails will soon have two new spots to check out in Northampton County.
Amigos Mexican Grill, a fast-casual Mexican restaurant with a location in downtown Allentown, and Zen, a new bar and lounge concept, are set to open in the coming weeks on the ground floor of The Marquis, a new apartment complex at 27 S. Third St. in downtown Easton.
Zen will occupy Suite 101, and Amigos will occupy Suite 102 of the newly constructed, seven-story complex between Pine and Ferry streets.
The businesses will operate alongside the third Lehigh Valley location of The Joint Coffee Co., a local coffee shop and roastery, which opened in late July. Read more here.

New Chipotle eatery set to open next month in Northampton County
WILSON, Pa. – A popular fast-casual restaurant chain, which opened a new Bethlehem location in February, is continuing to expand its footprint in the Lehigh Valley.
Chipotle Mexican Grill, known for its made-to-order tacos, burritos, quesadillas and other Mexican eats, is planning to open a new restaurant at 2445 Butler St. in Wilson next month, according to Mohit Patel, a spokesperson for the chain.
The new location will occupy a renovated building that previously housed an Arby’s eatery, which closed in March 2024. Read more.

L. SAUCON TWP., Pa. – A fast-growing national restaurant chain serving made-to-order burritos, tacos and more will soon have a presence in Northampton County.

The former Sunset Grille property, at 6751 Ruppsville Road in Upper Macungie Township, has been purchased by husband and wife Ed and Shahnaz Hanna of Whitehall Township.
The Hannas own and operate the nine-year-old Union & Finch, a popular American bistro at 1528 W. Union St. in Allentown, and are contemplating plans for the Upper Macungie site.

Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom is bringing back its popular Halloween events for the 2025 fall season, but with a new requirement that guests will want to know before they go.
Officials say starting this year, access to the park’s haunted mazes during Halloween Haunt, will require a separate Haunted Attractions Pass.

A new location of 7 Brew, serving custom, hand-crafted coffee, teas and other drinks at drive-thru stands nationwide, will hold a soft opening 5:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at 3045 N. Fifth Street Highway in Muhlenberg Township, Berks County, a company spokesperson said.

A new, fast-casual location of Sizzling Bites Halal Grill is set to open 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the 25th Street Shopping Plaza, at 2429 Nazareth Road in Palmer Township, Northampton County, owner Abdul S. Wali told 69 News.

WEST READING, Pa. – A tasty event is happening this weekend in Berks County. The West Reading French Fry Fest is back, and organizers say it’s bigger than ever.
“With the vendors combined, I think we’re going to move like 8,000-12,000 pounds of French fries,” said owner of West Reading Tavern, Mark Woodward.

Claire’s, offering jewelry, cosmetics, accessories and ear piercing, has recently commenced storewide sales at its three Lehigh Valley locations, at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township, Palmer Park Mall in Palmer Township and Promenade Saucon Valley in Upper Saucon Township.

Family-run restaurant bids farewell in Northampton County
FREEMANSBURG, Pa. – A restaurant known for its homemade dishes, including ceviche, beef stir-fry and marinated chicken cooked over a charcoal grill, has ended operations.
La Casera, offering authentic Peruvian cuisine, recently closed after about two years of business at 954 Pembroke Road in Freemansburg, Northampton County.
The restaurant, at the corner of Pembroke Road and Roosevelt Street, opened in August 2023 in a renovated building that was previously vacant for about two years. Full story here.

Plans for Bulgarian cultural center in Northampton County community withdrawn
BUSHKILL TWP., Pa.- Plans for a Bulgarian cultural center in Bushkill Township have been withdrawn.
The proposal, which called for a learning center and cemetery on the site of Bady’s Grove, a seafood store and catering and event venue, was on the agenda for a zoning hearing board meeting Monday night.
An attorney for the group behind the plans, BG Social Learning Center, announced at the meeting that the application was being pulled. He did not offer a reason why. Read more here.
