The Hagen History Center’s 50 acre plot of sunflowers is a feast for the eyes for many, and in a new collaboration, they’re going from sunshine to moonshine.

The Wilds Sonshine (Sunshine) Factory will now use the sunflowers grown in Girard to create a spiced rum made from sunflower seeds.

The group held an event at the Hagen History Center to celebrate the partnership and allowed attendees to try the brew.

The spirit, called 1898 Bayfront Reserve, will be sold exclusively in Erie County after its label is approved by the federal government. The spirit is aiming for a summer 2026 launch.
