SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), working with the City of Scranton, will close a portion of Marvine Avenue and Wells Street starting Monday, March 9, as construction continues on the Main Avenue Bridge replacement project.

The closure will affect the intersection of Marvine Avenue and Wells Street and is being implemented due to safety concerns tied to the ongoing work. Through traffic will not be permitted in the area during the closure.

Residents who live along Marvine Avenue and Wells Street will still be able to reach their homes by accessing the streets from North Main Avenue. Pedestrians may continue using both streets as part of the designated detour route.

Motorists are advised to follow posted detour signs while traveling near the project area. Drivers coming from the west will be directed to take Parker Street to Boulevard Avenue before reconnecting with Main Street. Those traveling from Dickson City should use Boulevard Avenue to Parker Street to return to Main Avenue. Truck traffic will be routed along Interstate 81 and the North Scranton Expressway.

PennDOT encourages motorists to plan ahead and allow extra travel time while the detours are in place.

Information about ongoing and upcoming construction projects can be found on PennDOT’s website at pa.gov/DOTprojects. Updates for District 4, which includes Lackawanna and surrounding counties, are also available online.
