How they got here: Abington defeated Council Rock South, 60-46, and lost to Coatesville, 69-64, then lost to Spring-Ford, 51-49, and beat Garnet Valley, 55-53, in the consolation tournament. Delaware Valley defeated West Scranton, 50-39, in the quarterfinals, Williamsport, 73-47, in the semifinals, and Wilkes-Barre Area, 51-48, in overtime, in the District 2-4 Class 6A subregional.

Up next: Winner advances to second round March 11 and will play the winner of 1-9 Conestoga at 11-1 Parkland.

Noteworthy: Delaware Valley won its first District 2 Class 6A championship and second District 2 title with its overtime win over Wilkes-Barre Area. Delaware Valley is making its 11th appearance in the state playoffs and first since 2013. The Warriors are 8-10 in PIAAs, and last won in the 2012 first round over Chambersburg, 56-45. Abington is in the state playoffs for the first time since 2022 and for the 24th time overall. Abington won the 1974 Class 3A championship and lost in the 1975 final. Abington beat Abington Heights, 72-61, in the 1973 Class 3A first round, and Scranton Prep, 80-65, in the 1975 Class 3A first round.

CLASS 3A FIRST ROUND

4-3 MIFFLINBURG (16-9) AT 2-1 RIVERSIDE (23-1)

When: Saturday, 1 p.m.

How they got here: Riverside received a bye in the quarterfinals, defeated No. 4 Holy Cross, 78-67, and beat Dunmore, 51-48, in the final of the District 2 tournament. Mifflinburg beat South Williamsport, 64-45, in the quarterfinals, lost to Warrior Run, 64-48, in the semifinals, and defeated Loyalsock, 55-25, in the third-place game of the District 4 playoffs.

Up next: Winner advances to second round March 11 and will play winner of the 1-1 MaST Charter vs. 12-1 HS of the Future game.

Players to watch: Mifflinburg — Chad Martin (6-3, Senior), Jackson Griffith (6-2, Senior), Grady Brubaker (6-1, Junior), JP Marr (5-10, Senior), Jackson Marr (5-6, Junior); Riverside — Nico Antoniacci (6-3, Sophomore, 30.1 points per game), Brayden Rose (6-4, Junior, 21.0), Kyle Connor (5-11, Senior, 6.3), Michael Schimelfenig (5-9, Senior, 5.7), Jared Jackson (6-2, Junior, 3.7).

Noteworthy: Riverside won its third straight District 2 Class 3A championship. Riverside is making its 18th appearance in the PIAA playoffs and has an overall record of 12-17. Riverside’s Nico Antoniacci is a career 2,000-point scorer and an NCAA Division I prospect with scholarship offers to Manhattan, Penn State and Syracuse. Riverside’s Brayden Rose is a career 1,000-point scorer and is an NCAA Division I prospect with football scholarship offers from Lehigh, Dartmouth and Syracuse. Mifflinburg is in the state playoffs for the first time since 2018, when it lost in the Class 4A first round to Valley View, 64-45. Mifflinburg played Abington Heights in the 2010 Class 3A state playoffs and lost, 55-41.

CLASS 3A FIRST ROUND

2-2 DUNMORE (21-4) VS. 4-1 WARRIOR RUN (23-2)

How they got here: Dunmore defeated Montrose, 76-36, Lakeland, 52-46, and lost to Riverside, 51-48, in the District 2 tournament. Warrior Run defeated Wellsboro, 73-39, in the quarterfinals, Mifflinburg, 64-48, in the semifinals, and Southern Columbia, 70-65, in the District 4 championships.

Noteworthy: Dunmore is in the state playoffs for the first time since 2010 and for the 26th overall. Dunmore is 17-25 in the PIAA playoffs. Dunmore is the only team to defeat Riverside this season. Dunmore’s Brayden Canavan is a career 1,000-point scorer. Dunmore’s last win in the state playoffs came against St. Pius X in the 2009 first round. Warrior Run is in the PIAA playoffs for the second straight season and the 13th time overall. Warrior Run’s Aiden McKee has more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career and was named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class 3A all-state second team last season. Warrior Run’s two losses are to Carver Engineering & Science, 77-72, in double overtime, and Lewisburg, 67-61.

CLASS 2A FIRST ROUND

4-3 EAST JUNIATA (10-15) AT 2-1 OLD FORGE (18-6)

How they got here: East Juniata defeated St. John Neumann, 54-41, in the quarterfinals, lost to eventual champion, Northeast Bradford, 74-56, in the semifinals, and qualified for the state playoffs with a 55-46 win over Line Mountain in the third-place game of the District 4 tournament; Old Forge received a bye in the quarterfinals, defeated No. 4 Blue Ridge, 77-40 in the semifinals, and beat Susquehanna, 69-34, in the final of the District 2 playoffs.

Noteworthy: Old Forge won its second straight District 2 Class 2A championship. Old Forge is in the state playoffs for the 29th time and has a record of 27-27, including a 1932 Class 3A championship win over Strong Vincent,  24-19. Old Forge lost to eventual champion Linville Hill Christian, 75-63, in last season’s PIAA quarterfinals. Old Forge senior Cameron Parker is a career 1,000-point scorer. East Juniata is making its first appearance in the state playoffs. East Juniata’s Wrett Smith is a career 1,000-point scorer.

CLASS 2A FIRST ROUND

2-2 SUSQUEHANNA (19-6) AT 4-1 NORTHEAST BRADFORD (22-3)

How they got here: Susquehanna defeated Forest City, 78-39, in the quarterfinals, Lackawanna Trail, 61-40, in the semifinals, and lost to Old Forge, 69-34, in the championship game of the District 2 tournament. Northeast Bradford beat Sayre, 75-24, in the quarterfinals, East Juniata, 74-56, in the semifinals, and Muncy, 34-33, in the championship game.

Northeast Bradford won its first District 4 championship since 1991 and is in the state playoffs for the first time since 2019. Northeast Bradford’s Cooper Brown is a career 1,000-point scorer.
