READING, Pa. – The local chapter of the American Red Cross is honoring everyday heroes.

Our Karin Mallett hosted the Berks County Heroes Breakfast at the DoubleTree Hotel in Reading this morning.

The Red Cross gives awards to people who help save lives and give their time to make a difference in their community.

Organizers say it’s important to recognize their efforts and share these stories.

“I think people need heroes. I think we all like to see people who are willing to go above and beyond. I think it restores our faith in humanity sometimes,” said Peter Brown, executive director of the American Red Cross Pa Rivers Chapter.

Organizers say they hope the stories inspire people to learn CPR and have working smoke alarms in their homes.
