NOXEN, WYOMING CO. (WOLF) — For two months a group of volunteers have been inspecting the bridges that run over Bowman Creek to make sure the water was holding up.
Headed by the Eastern PA Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation, or EPCAMR, volunteers tested pH levels, sediment buildup, and the dimensions of Bowman creek that runs under bridges.
Bowman creek is an important part of the Northeast Pennsylvania watershed and an essential waterway for trout and other local fish. The team tests the water and sediment and after, submits their findings to a database where recommendations for improving the quality of the water are made based on the information.
Bobby Hughes, executive director of EPCAMR, said that they’ve been doing this for 30 years, and that in the decades since the water quality has substantially improved.
“It’s 2025 and we’re doing a full blown assessment now again. And we got the funding to do that because since that time there’s been a lot of things that have changedBut we’re taking a look at that historical data and now getting new current data to be able to make some, you know, assessment on what do we need to do down and to make further improvements.”
Many of the volunteers have been fishing and using Bowman creek for decades and hope that through this month’s long process, many more will be able to appreciate it for decades to come.
