  • March 7, 2026

LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – Two teens are dead after a car left the road and entered Lake Erie at Beaver Park Marina early Friday, according to Lorain police.

On Saturday morning, the Lorain County Coroner identified the two teens as 18-year-old Lucille Hopkins and 17-year-old Paige Williams.

Superintendent Chris M. McCully of EHOVE Career Center shared a heartfelt message after the loss of one of its current students and an alumna:

It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic news that two members of our EHOVE family were involved in a car accident and have passed away — one of our current senior students and a graduate from the Class of 2025, Cosmetology student Paige Williams and Medical Careers alumna Lucille Hopkins.

This news is difficult for our entire school community. Anytime we lose a part of our school family, the loss is felt across our entire community. Our thoughts are with their families, friends, classmates, and all who knew them.

We understand that this news may be upsetting for many students. Our crisis response team has been mobilized, and additional counselors will be available on campus next week to support any students or staff members who wish to talk.

We encourage families to talk with their children and reach out to the school if additional support is needed. If your child would like to speak with someone, please contact the school, and we will make sure support is available.

Thank you for being such a supportive and caring community. Please keep the families affected by this tragedy in your thoughts.

Officers were called to the marina in the 6100 block of West Erie Avenue around 4:15 a.m. for reports of a downed utility pole at West Erie Avenue and Oak Point Road.

Around the same time, dispatchers received calls about an 18-year-old man who had entered a nearby home without permission. When officers located him, his injuries appeared consistent with a car crash.

The teen told officers he was in the back seat of a car driven by a female, with another female in the front passenger seat. He said the car struck at least one utility pole, left the road, and entered the water. He said he escaped through a back seat window as the vehicle began to sink.

Officers then began searching the marina for the car.

Victims located; car pulled from water

The Lorain Police Underwater Recovery Team located the vehicle shortly after 8 a.m. One victim was found inside the car; the second was located a short time later. Both were pronounced dead.

Around 10:30 a.m., crews pulled the wrecked vehicle from the marina.

The male survivor, whose name has not been released, is being treated at Mercy Health. His condition has not been updated. The names of the two women have not been released.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
