Carver E&S, the fifth place team out of District 12, knocked off District 3 champion Berks Catholic Friday night, 40-35, in the opening round of the PIAA Class 4A boys basketball tournament at Berks Catholic High School.
The Saints finish the season 25-3.
Carver (21-6) advances to Tuesday’s second round to play Dallas, a 57-48 winner over Northwestern Lehigh on Friday night.
The loss ended the scholastic career of the Saints’ All-State guard Kingston McKoy, who will play next at Colgate University.
Matt McField led Carver with 14 points and Sahim Rodriguez had 10.
McKoy had 19 and Carmelo Harper 9 for the Saints.
Carver avenged a season-opening 53-49 loss on Dec. 5 to Berks Catholic.
The game was tied at 30 after three periods, but the Saints scored just five points in the final eight minutes. McKoy had all five on a basket and three free throws.
For Carver, Fareed Brown had seven of his nine points in the fourth quarter.
Class 6A girls
District 7 champion Canon-McMillan outscored Gov. Mifflin 19-13 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 48-46 win the first round of the girls 6A tournament on Friday night.
For the Mustangs (18-10), junior guard Bella Super scored 25 points. Gov. Mifflin finished eighth in the District 3 tournament.
Canon-McMillan (22-4) advances to the play Allderdice on Tuesday in the second round.

Boys 5A – Chartiers Valley 66, Exeter 42. The Eagles finish the season 18-11.
Boys 4A – Scranton Prep 65, Schuylkill Valley 48. The Panthers finish the season 16-11.
Class 4A – Archbishop Carroll 77, Wyomissing 53. The Spartans finish the season 16-11.
