The body recovered Saturday, March 7 from Lake Erie in Monroe Township has been identified as a 34-year-old Sterling Heights woman reported missing in December.

“(Jeanne Renee Peterson) was reported to be a missing person through the Michigan State Police on December 19, 2025, when she was last seen jumping off the MacArthur Bridge in Detroit. Peterson was transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy,” the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported in a news release.

Sheriff Troy Goodnough said the woman was found in Lake Erie in the 13000 block of Shady Lane, just offshore in the area of Bolles Harbor in Monroe Township. Monroe County Central Dispatch received the call at approximately 11:27 a.m. March 7.

Members of the Monroe Charter Township Fire Department walked into the water and brought the body to shore, the sheriff’s office said.

Also assisting with the investigation were paramedics from Monroe Community Ambulance, chaplains from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and member of the Sheriff’s Office’s Victim Services Unit. The Michigan State Police assisted with making notification to the victim’s family.
