Former Eagles receiver Jahan Dotson is heading to Atlanta on a two-year deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday afternoon.
Dotson’s two-year, $15 million deal with the Falcons is reportedly worth up to $17 million and includes $10 million in fully guaranteed money, per ESPN.
It’s not a surprise that Dotson is leaving Philadelphia but the Eagles will have to find a new WR3 in 2026.
Dotson, 25, initially joined the Eagles ahead of the 2024 season. The Eagles traded a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks to Washington that August for Dotson and a fifth-rounder. In two seasons with the Eagles, Dotson caught just 37 passes for 478 yards and 1 touchdown. He was targeted just 69 times in 34 games with the Eagles.
Over the last two seasons, Dotson played 1,273 offensive snaps for the Eagles. There were 75 receivers to play 1,000+ snaps over the last two seasons and Dotson ranked dead last among them in targets, receptions and yards.
But Dotson did have a big catch against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Dotson caught a 27-yard pass in the first quarter to get the Eagles down to the 1-yard line and Jalen Hurts put the Eagles on the board on the very next play. Dotson’s play was initially ruled a touchdown but the call was overturned. Head coach Nick Sirianni gave Dotson credit for being a team player and not reaching for the goal line.
On a team with A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Goedert, Dotson just didn’t get many opportunities.
“For me, in my situation, I don’t get a lot of opportunities,” Dotson said in November. “So when those opportunities arise, you’ve got to make the most of them.
“A coach once told me it’s way better to take the hit and make the catch than to take the hit and not make the catch and don’t have anything to show for it at all. So it’s just my mentality. Make the play no matter what.”
The Commanders drafted Dotson with the No. 16 overall pick out of Penn State in the 2022 draft but traded him to the Eagles after just two seasons.
As of now, the Eagles have Brown and Smith as their top two receivers on the roster. But without Dotson, they’ll need to figure out the WR3 position. The only other receivers on the roster are Darius Cooper, Johnny Wilson and Britain Covey.
Of those three, Cooper appears to have the most upside but he’s a second-year UDFA and the Eagles might not be able to rely on him to be that guy in 2026.
