Pennsylvania State Police said O’Connor first enlisted in 2010 and was first assigned to Troop J in Avondale, Pennsylvania before joining the Criminal Investigation Unit in October of 2016.

He was then transferred to the Embreeville barracks in March of 2022 and was promoted to corporal months later in July of 2022.

“This is a tragic day for all of us. We have lost a dear member of our family, a hero and member of the Pennsylvania State Police,” said Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens, Acting Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police.

The Pennsylvania DUI Association said it stands with O’Connor’s “wife and daughter, family and friends, and the Pennsylvania State Police during this difficult time.”

The 40-year-old trooper was shot around 8:15 p.m. after pulling over Jesse Elks, 32, 10 minutes after responding to the initial call, state police confirmed.

O’Connor’s mother also posted about the fifteen year state police veteran, saying:

Our lives are forever changed . My brave, fearless son gave his life tonight in the line of duty. Always the vigilant protector, until the end . I will always be proud of you Tim. Rest in peace my boy. Mom has it from here.

After O’Connor’s shooting, Elks died by suicide, state troopers said.
