Three teenagers were arrested Saturday after stealing a car in Schuylkill County and then leading state police on a chase in northern Berks County, according to investigators.
State police reported that they were notified Saturday afternoon about three individuals breaking into vehicles around Orwigsburg. The three were seen driving south into Berks on Route 61 in a car they stole in Pottsville.
Troopers spotted the stolen vehicle turning into the parking lot of Cabela’s just before 4 p.m. The trio would not stop for the troopers, instead heading back onto southbound Route 61.
Troopers pursued the vehicle into Hamburg, where the three abandoned the car and fled on foot.
All three were captured after brief foot pursuits.
Sterno Leopol, 19, of Irvington, N.J., and Rushaun Daley, 19, of Bronx, N.Y., were each arraigned in front of Berks County District Judge Colleen Dugan Schearer on four counts of fleeing police, four counts of flight to avoid apprehension, four counts of evading an officer on foot, four counts or reckless endangerment, one count of receiving stolen property and 25 driving violations.
Daleywas committed to Berks County Jail in lieu of $1 million cash bail. Leopol was placed in Berks County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
The third teen, a 16-year-old male, was taken to Abraxas Academy where he is currently being held. Details on the charges against him were not immediately available.
All of the suspects have additional charges pending in Schuylkill County.
State police were assisted during the incident by Tilden Township and Hamburg police.
