Metro Philadelphia

The Wardrobe is hosting a pair of free events aimed at empowering women and addressing clothing insecurity that will take place in and around Philadelphia this month as part of Women’s History Month.

The nonprofit will highlight its free services through two initiatives: the Smart + Sexy Open Wardrobe clothing distribution and a Leaders in Fashion panel discussion as part of its new Common Threads community conversation series.

The Leaders in Fashion event will be held March 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Wardrobe’s Philadelphia headquarters, 444 N. 3rd Street. The panel will feature fashion industry leaders, including Lauren Simmonds (founder of Fearless Fashionista), Ana Hartl (Chief Creative Officer of Free People), among others.

The discussion is part of The Wardrobe’s Common Threads series, which aims to bring community members together for conversations about success, leadership and overcoming obstacles. Organizers say the series focuses on shared experiences and the idea that, even during times of division, “we share a common thread — the desire to succeed and help others to overcome obstacles.”

Later in the month, the organization will host Open Wardrobe events on March 25 at multiple locations across the region, including Philadelphia, Upper Darby, Chester, Exton, Norristown and Kennett Square. The events are open to all women and will provide participants with a free Smart & Sexy bra, professional or casual clothing and hygiene products intended to support comfort and confidence.

Founded more than three decades ago, The Wardrobe works to eliminate clothing insecurity by providing free clothing, career support and styling assistance. The organization serves roughly 10,000 people annually across six locations in the Philadelphia area.

In addition to clothing services, participants can access career development programs such as Wings for Success, which offers coaching and workshops designed to help individuals reach professional and personal goals.

The nonprofit also operates resale stores throughout Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery and Chester counties. Proceeds from clothing sales help fund programs that provide free resources to community members in need.
