READING, Pa. – Reading City Council took time out of its regular legislative meeting to honor the teams that make up the Reading Junior Royals program.

All five of the teams made the playoffs last month, and four had championship wins.

Mayor Eddie Moran wanted to honor the youth program and its coaches.

“I enjoy my job as mayor of the city, but it really gives me one of the greatest honors to be around our youth because our youth is a future,” Moran said.

“When I heard that a bunch of Reading Royal Juniors became champions, I couldn’t resist to have the opportunity to welcome you into city hall and recognize you, and for you to get the acknowledgement that you deserve for representing us in your games and tournaments,” Moran said.

The mayor presented the champion teams with certificates of recognition from the city.

Priscilla Campos

Also Monday night, council honored Priscilla Campos in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Campos is the first Latina magisterial district judge in the city and the county.

Council President Donna Reed praised Campos for dedicating her life to public service and working to improve the quality of life in the city.

“She holds the distinction of being the first Latina/Hispanic to serve in this capacity in Berks County, a milestone that not only reflects her personal achievement, but also represents progress and inspiration for many in the community,” Reed said.

Reed presented Campos with a commendation from the city.

Campos said she was humbled and grateful for the recognition.

“To serve the City of Reading is not simply a position I hold; it is a responsibility and an honor that I carry with great pride,” Campos said. “Being recognized as the first Latina in this position in Berks County — something I hold close to my heart — I hope it serves as a reminder to others, especially our young community and our city, that with hard work, perseverance and faith, there is no limits to what they can achieve.”

Priscilla Campos is the sister of council Vice President Vanessa Campos.
