Valerie Sisson Stout, CRT
OBITUARY
Valerie Sisson Stout, CRT, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, surrounded by her family after a six-year battle with ALS.
Valerie was born the day before her mother’s birthday in Scranton on September 7, 1970, to the late Ralph and Catherine Clark Sisson.
She graduated from Valley View High School in 1988, where she was a member of the gymnastics team. She later graduated from the Luzerne County Community College Respiratory Therapist program in 1992.
She started her career at Wayne Memorial Hospital in 1992 and went on to work at several local hospitals, including Mid Valley, Marian Community, Allied Services Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Moses Taylor. She ended her career where she started, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, in the position she was so passionate about Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator. Valerie was a true patient advocate and treated her patients as she would want her family to be treated.
Valerie is survived by her husband, Steve Stout; daughter Brittany and husband James Dougherty, and her granddaughter Clara Catherine Dougherty; son Jack Baronski and partner Abigail Marion; stepson Steven Stout and partner Kaylin Brundage and daughter Emma; brother Ralph Sisson and wife Cathy, and her favorite nephew and niece Jeremy and Jillian Sisson; her grandfather Leonard Rebernik; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Linda Stout; aunts Ellen Lahey and Judith Neary; and several cousins.
Her life was dedicated to her children before anything else. She spent her time involved in their school and sports and was their biggest fan, as she liked to say. She loved cheering them on at dance recitals, football games, wrestling matches, cross country and track meets. She was loud and proud and never missed an opportunity to support her kids. She put her family above all.
In her spare time, she found gardening to be therapeutic. She could bring any plant back to life. She was also the Valley Wrestling Club treasurer from 2014 to 2019.
Valerie loved weeping willow trees, thunderstorms, sunflowers, Notre Dame football, and Jeeps. She used to rock her children on the front porch during summer thunderstorms when they were young. Most of all, she was proud of being a mother to her children. They brought her the most joy and fulfillment in her life. Her husband is the most caring and giving man, and she was so very lucky to have him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sheerer, Johns Hopkins ALS Clinic, Allied Services Hospice Center, and most importantly Laura Marion for the outstanding care during her final days.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Parish at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald, PA. Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at Robert E. Decker Funeral Home, 702 River St., Peckville.
