S. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – Easter is right around the corner, which means a local family-owned candy shop is preparing chocolate bunnies and other sweet treats to fly off the shelves.

69 News Reporter Sydney Kay was in the shop in South Whitehall Township with a look at the holiday rush.

Amy Barnett at Josh Early Candies said Easter is one of the busiest time of years for the shop, second to Christmas. 

“We’re ready,” she said.

She said the shop has “something for everyone,” including bite-sized candy eggs and peanut rolled candy eggs. Barnett’s favorite candy? “Peanut butter mousse truffle eggs.” They come in half-pound and pound sizes.

A lot of hard work and preparation goes into getting all the goodies ready for customers. Barnett said the shop has an incredible staff.

Everything is handmade at the shop, Barnett said.

Mia Jensen, Shop Manager at Josh Early Candies, said the shop’s biggest priority is customer service.

“It’s a great place to be,” she said.

Head Chef Brandon Bors and other chefs demonstrated the process of making peanut butter cream eggs for 69 News Tuesday morning. Barry Dobil Jr., with Josh Early Candies said everything is made fresh at the shop. He said the eggs the chefs are whipping up Tuesday morning would be on the shelves later Tuesday.

Enrobing Manager Ricky Musselman said 100 or so of the bigger candy eggs and thousands of the smaller eggs get made at the shop every day.  get made every day, he said. He explained that enrobing is the process of wrapping the chocolate around the shop’s candies.
