BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Former Bethlehem Steel FC and Philadelphia Union soccer player Derrick Jones has received a lifetime suspension from the MLS.
Jones along with fellow midfielder and teammate Yaw Yeboah both were given lifetime bans Monday for betting on games, including their own.
The MLS specifically noted that on one occasion both players placed bets on Jones receiving a yellow card – which then happened – in a match for Columbus Crew against the New York Red Bulls when they were teammates.
The MLS says there was no evidence the bets affected the outcome of any game.
