DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Pennsylvania State Police in Dunmore will conduct DUI checkpoints and roving patrols throughout Lackawanna County as part of an effort to crack down on impaired driving.

Troopers assigned to Troop R said enforcement details will focus on roadways that have seen a higher number of alcohol-related crashes and DUI arrests. Officials say the initiative is designed to improve public safety and deter motorists from getting behind the wheel while under the influence.

Police noted that enforcement efforts will follow a zero-tolerance approach.

Under Pennsylvania law, drivers are considered legally impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent or higher. A DUI conviction can carry penalties ranging from a $300 fine and probation to fines of up to $5,000 and prison sentences of as long as five years, depending on the circumstances. Additional consequences may include license suspensions of up to 18 months, required attendance at Alcohol Highway Safety School and installation of an ignition interlock device.

State police are urging drivers to make safe choices and plan ahead if they intend to consume alcohol.
