Shane Powers believes in approaching life with a positive mindset and an orientation toward solutions, a willingness to face obstacles with creativity, and a deep appreciation for the people in her life. That is the philosophy by which she lives by as the president and CEO of NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania in Scranton.
As the president and CEO she is responsible for strategic leadership to advance the organization’s mission of creating vibrant neighborhoods through critical housing assistance and community development. She oversees operations, financial stewardship, fundraising, partnerships, and staff development while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. She cultivates critical relationships with community stakeholders, collaborates on innovative housing solutions, and safeguard long-term organizational sustainability to create lasting pathways to homeownership for residents across the region.
Having graduated from high school in 1990 in Albuquerque, NM, she attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earning her bachelor of science in materials engineering, with minors in management and economics.
She accepted a position in manufacturing at Procter and Gamble, from 1994 to 2008; DHL Supply Chain in logistics, warehousing, and supply chain as the general manager for four years and was the chief operating office for three years in the Tunkhannock Area School District.
After spending nearly 20 years working in the private sector, Powers felt a strong desire to work more closely with the people in her community. “This sparked a professional journey that eventually led me to the work I do today. Every day I have the privilege of working alongside a group of talented people who are deeply committed to strengthening our communities and creating thriving neighborhoods,” she notes.
She accepted the position of chief operating officer at NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania in 2022 and has been president and CEO since 2024.
Her mentors include Jesse Ergott, Teddy Michel, Carla McCabe who have guided her to the success she enjoys today. “Building strong relationships, respect and care for people, a growth mindset, hard work, and tenacity,” she admits have also helped her achieve her goals.
The businesswoman is grateful to her husband, Christopher Powers, and their children Logan Gravelle, Zoe Powers, Aiden Powers, for the love and support that they give her daily that allows her to accomplish the success she has to date.
In the community, Powers is a board member of MetroAction; the Wyoming County Community Alliance; and the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church. She is also a graduate of the Nonprofit Leadership program and has received the DHL Supply Chain Leadership award.
In her spare time, her hobbies include reading, exploring local restaurants, and experiencing any form of live entertainment.
