Michelle Hazleton believes in being a kind and compassionate person as she follows her journey of life.
“You should have these traits because you never know what someone may be going through,” said the president and CPA of the Michelle Hazleton CPA PC, Nanticoke.
As the owner of the small firm, Hazleton wears many hats. During tax season, her greatest responsibility is preparing personal tax returns. “Tax season can get pretty crazy, so some days I help out wherever else is needed,” she explained.
A graduate of the Greater Nanticoke Area class of 2005, she attained her bachelor of science degree in accounting from Wilkes University in May 2009. Her mother and mentor, Karen M. Hazleton, CPA, had been a CPA for 45 years and had opened her own business in which her daughter purchased from her in January 2021. “She still works for me full-time during tax season. I beg her every day not to retire just yet. I would not be where I am today without her guidance, support, patience and love,” she admits.
Hazleton feels fortunate to have grown up in this business. “I saw from a young age the sacrifice, dedication and long hours that go into making this business successful, especially during tax season,” she noted.
The young woman is grateful for the support of her parents who are there for her no matter what she needs. “I am lucky to have them both. My dad who is always willing to come over to the office and help when something breaks helps me immensely,” she notes.
She is also thankful to her partner for being supportive and understanding of the grueling hours and stress that comes along with tax season and owning a business in general.
Hazleton serves as the Nanticoke Fireman’s Relief Association secretary. She is an EMT on the Nanticoke ambulance for the past 15 years. She is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 834.
