The warm stretch of days could end Wednesday with some showers and storms in the Lehigh Valley.
Isolated scattered to severe thunderstorms with wind gusts of between 60 to 70 mph are possible between 3 and 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Forecasters said the Lehigh Valley is under a marginal risk of severe weather, while nearby Berks County is under a slight risk.
Storms are expected to move east by mid or late afternoon into the early evening hours across the region, according to forecasters. In addition to storms, forecasters said there is a slight chance of hail or an isolated tornado. Rain could linger into Thursday morning.
Temperatures are expected to drop significantly after several warm days in the Lehigh Valley. A high of 80 was recorded Tuesday, making it the third-earliest 80-degree day on record for the region.
A high of 76 is expected Wednesday, but temperatures should fall into the 50s through Sunday, which has a high of 60. Rain is also possible Sunday and Monday. Meteorologists wrote in their daily forecast discussion that there could even be some snow Sunday night.
“The amount of precipitation and any snow will be highly dependent on the timing of the system, how much moisture is with it and how quickly the colder air moves in,” they said.
Today is the last day of this very warm stretch. Some showers and thunderstorms should arrive later this afternoon, and some storms could turn severe. The severe weather risk will depend on how quickly storms arrive and their coverage. Stay weather aware! #pawx #mdwx #dewx #njwx pic.twitter.com/sRz8u1ITLW
