Allentown police say they are trying to identify those responsible for a gathering of hundreds of kids who caused a disruption Tuesday night at a city park.

About 200 to 250 juveniles were at Valania Park about 6:30 p.m., which led to multiple altercations and disruptions of others legitimately using the park, according to a police news release. Officers cleared the park and ended the event, the department said.

Police are investigating the incident and are trying to identify those responsible for the event. Investigators plan to file charges against those involved, the release states.

“Violence is never an acceptable solution to conflict,” Chief Charles Roca said in the release. “I urge parents and guardians to remain vigilant and discourage their children from participating in unauthorized ‘takeover’ events promoted by way of social media or other digital platforms.”

Anyone with information of video of the incident is asked to contact police at 610-437-7741. Tips can also be sent through the Tip411 application.
