Rowan lost to No. 15 nationally ranked Scranton, 13-12, on Wednesday night in Glassboro. With seven seconds left. Alexis Lowry put a sliver of hope back into store for the Profs. Down one goal, Rowan had only seven seconds to win a draw at midfield, push the ball downfield toward the Profs’ attacking end, and score to tie it. As time ticked down quickly, Rowan could not advance the ball into their attacking end and fell short of a comeback effort against the fifteenth-ranked Royals.

“This was a choice,” head coach Lindsay Delaney said. “Winning is a choice. They chose to do it on Saturday. [It was] obvious [that the] vibes were different. I think you have a choice to make. It’s a choice how you mentally approach the game.”

The game was tied 4-4 after the first quarter, and the back-and-forth offenses traded goals in the second quarter, ultimately ending up with a 7-5 Royals lead at halftime.

Rowan did tie it up in the third quarter, tied 11 apiece on a free position shot from Alexis Lowry. Scranton went on to grab a 12-11, then 13-11 lead from goals from Colleen Mullin and Allyson Flynn, two of three goals that did not come from Jillian Lopez and Eileen Hewitt, who combined for ten.

“[Kylie Durboraw] had two bounce off her body,” Delaney said. “Those two don’t go in; we win the game.”

Neither side scored from the 2:46 mark to the 07, the Lowry goal that cut the deficit to one.

Rowan lost the ground ball battle, 18-14. The Profs struggled all game receiving passes and working into a flow offensively.

“I think we’re not working together clearing the balls out,” Elaina Corson said. “I think going into practice, we just need to start working together and communicate.”

Rowan is heading to Susquehanna on Saturday to face the Riverhawks, in search of a bounce-back win.

Then, the Profs hit the road to Tennessee to face Sewanee and Rhodes, two out-of-state opponents in a spring break trip for Rowan.

“Honestly, I think it’s good to face losses early in the season,” said Corson. “We didn’t want to lose against Muhlenberg, and we definitely didn’t want to lose against Scranton because we lost against them last year. I hope it just fires everyone up for the rest of the season, because we should be coming out on top in these last games.”

Rowan’s matchup against Susquehanna is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
