Heather Kubic Skapyak believes that how you build matters as much as what you build. “I believe in leading with integrity, transparency, and respect for people at every level.
Collaboration, progress, and meaningful work are essential to long-term success, and when people feel seen and empowered, great things happen,” explains the director of business development at GreenmanPedersen Inc., Scranton.
At GreenmanPedersen, Inc., a national, multidiscipline engineering firm, she leads strategic growth initiatives across building systems, civil/site, and federal pursuits, aligning data analysis, market insight, and relationship development with the firm’s vision.
Her role includes cultivating and maintaining client relationships throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and national markets, while supporting discipline leaders in achieving business development goals and sustaining a healthy sales pipeline for GPIs teams.
Her career spans more than 30 years in the architectural, engineering, and construction industry, and reflects a willingness to evolve, learn, and lead through change. The director earned a bachelor of fine arts from Arcadia University with a degree in interior design, and holds a NCIDQ certification.
Skapyak began her career as an interior designer with nationally recognized architectural firms in Princeton, Philadelphia, and New York City, contributing to award-winning projects including the North American headquarters of Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy in Manhattan.
Following 9/11, the young woman returned to Northeastern Pennsylvania, where she continued her design career on notable regional projects such as the Lackawanna County Courthouse and Mount Airy Casino Resort.
At Benco Dental, the executive led multi-location design teams, launched new design services, and supported the company’s growth into Texas and California. She later grew the business development and pre-construction role at L.R. Costanzo Construction.
Skapyak has been fortunate to learn from many mentors throughout her career including people who have challenged her to think strategically, act with integrity, and trust her voice. “I am especially grateful to those who supported my growth during moments of transition and entrusted me with opportunities to lead and innovate. Many of those mentors have become lifelong friends, which I consider one of the greatest gifts of my career,” she added.
The director attributes her success to relationships, resilience, and curiosity. “Building trust, listening deeply, and showing up consistently have been central to every role I have held. I view challenges—whether economic shifts, relocations, or career pivots—not as obstacles, but as gateways to growth,” she notes.
Skapyak’s family has been the foundation behind every professional milestone, and she is deeply rooted with the support of her parents, Marilyn and Rich Kubic, and is gifted to be a mother of two daughters, Neve and Sonia. “Balancing motherhood and career has shaped my empathy, discipline, and perspective,” she adds. Her partner, Dan Lefchak, and she enjoy hiking, exploring new places, and supporting their children’s journeys.
