The new documentary ‘The Librarians” looks at the challenges librarians face from book bans and censorship to pushback from communities. One of the librarians featured in the film is Brooky Parks. Five years ago, she was working at the Erie Public Library when she was fired for promoting LGBTQ and anti-racism programming.

Parks filed a civil rights complaint, leading to changes in the library district policies. Rocky Mountain Community Radio’s Maeve Conran spoke with Parks about her experience and the case.

Brooky Parks will be participating in a panel discussion on censorship following a screening of the Librarians on Apr. 8, at The DU Law School at 4:30 in room 155.

Brooky is now an academic librarian at the University of Denver, where she also gets to conduct and present research on topics like censorship.

You can hear more of her story on the Regional Roundup next Monday at 9 a.m.
