A Reading man serving time in a federal prison in Schuylkill County for drug trafficking has been indicted on a charge of having a weapon in the prison in Minersville.

Ramsee Munoz, 35, is accused of having a roughly 6-inch metal object, sharpened on both sides with one side being serrated — commonly known as a shank — on Sept. 18, according to a release Wednesday from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

Munoz was indicted on a count of possessing contraband.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the FBI investigated the case.

The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is five years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following  imprisonment and a fine.

Munoz pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in 2024 to a charge of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and was sentenced to 87 months in prison.

According to court documents:

From April 2021 until his indictment in June 2022, Munoz conspired with others to distribute 500 grams of methamphetamine and 40 grams of fentanyl in Northumberland and Columbia counties.

Munoz and his conspirators obtained the drugs from suppliers in Reading and drove the drugs to sellers and users in Sunbury, Shamokin and Mount Carmel.
