Catherine A. Kelly, R.N.

OBITUARY

Catherine A. Kelly, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away Sunday at Geisinger-CMC Hospital, Scranton with her family by her side. Her husband is Joseph R. Kelly. Cathy/Nannie was the heart of our home. Her world was us and always revolved around us, or Ye, as she would say in her old Irish way, and reminded us that Life is for the living.

Born in Scranton and a lifelong resident of Archbald, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. Malone and Kathryn McAndrews Malone. She was a 1957 graduate of Archbald High School and a graduate of the Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. She also attended Marywood Seminary. She dedicated forty years of her life as a registered nurse in the Maternity Labor and Delivery Ward at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, where she also served as a supervisor. She was a lifelong member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Church-Christ the King Parish, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, and the PTA.

Selfless, thoughtful and kind Cathy devoted her life to caring for her husband, five children, and ten grandchildren in every way, especially through prayer. Her love and devotion to her faith were unmatched. She was generous, compassionate and kind. She had a beautiful soul, bright smile, and a great laugh. Many summers she spent with a watchful eye on her five children at the Jersey Shore, enjoying every minute with us and our father playing and laughing in the sun. So many cherished memories. She made every Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and all the birthdays in between, so special for all of us and was always the one to lead grace before meals. Her homemade pies and Congo bars were always a family favorite. In addition to the unending love she had for her family, she was also a great lover of animals and always made sure all the dogs, backyard birds, and squirrels were also loved and well-fed.

Wherever you would find her, you could find our father. Like any good doting mother and grandmother, she always attended her children’s and grandchildren’s countless school functions, sporting events, dance recitals, musicals and more–always with flowers in hand and our father by her side. One of the truest and sweetest love stories there ever was. Joe and Cathy. Cathy and Joe. They were one. Blessed with sixty-three years of marriage, a lifetime of travel, memories, laughter and a beautiful family, they built a love that neither time nor space could ever separate. Although our hearts are heavy, we know we will see her again someday, but until that time, May God hold her in the palm of His hand.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by five children, Mary Ann Chindemi (Dave), Joseph Kelly (Marissa Weircinski), Patrick Kelly (Laura Turlip), Brian Kelly (Melissa), Eileen McConnell (Michael). Grandchildren, Beatrice Chindemi, Kyle Joseph Kelly, Patrick, Cullen, Caroline and Jake Kelly, Madeline, Julia and Jacqueline Kelly, Kaitlin McConnell and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Malone.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lisa Thomas, Dr. Linda Thomas-Hemak and the staff at The Wright Center for CommunityHealth, for years of loving and compassionate care she provided to our mother.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 Main Street, Archbald with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in St Thomas Aquinas Church-Christ the King Parish, 429 Church Street, Archbald. Entombment will follow in St Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
