A volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to education and training to achieve economic empowerment is holding a Women’s Walk this weekend.
LEWISBURG, Pa. — Lindsay Tull belongs to the local chapter of a global volunteer organization called Soroptimist.Â
The organization provides women and girls with access to the education and training needed to achieve economic empowerment. She says the chapter in Snyder, Union, and Northumberland counties does much of the same. However, they have two main focuses.
“Our Live Your Dream award. Those are for women that are head of their household that are trying to further their education, and so we find ways to fundraise, and then we give them money to assist in their college education,” said Tull, Soroptimist Club Member.Â
The chapter also funds the Live It, Dream It program for high school girls. The organization assists with mentoring and career path involvement, whether that path heads to college, a trade school, or right into the work force.
Tull says they also have a test to help women and girls find their strengths for a career. “Women still don’t make the full amount of what men make as well in 2026, so it’s just important for me to raise awareness for everyone that we’re still trying to figure things out and get to be where everyone else is as well.”
On Sunday, March 15, the local Soroptimist is holding a Women’s Walk from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Piers Art Park in Lewisburg. Tull says this is the first time their chapter is doing this. She says the walk will raise awareness in the community to let everyone know how they are raising money for women and girls.Â
Tull says you don’t have to walk the entire time; you can also just show up to support. “We have some friendship bracelets that some club members either have made or purchased. We have some information regarding what our club does, information on Women’s History month like a little goody bag we’re just giving out and whatnot.”
There is no registration for the Women’s Walk; you are free to come as you are. She says that since joining this club, she has felt like she has found a purpose with her community. Tull says the club is always looking for new members. “There’s always resources and other women out there who can help and guide you; you just need to reach out and figure out who your tribe is and then really rally with them,” said Tull.Â
