DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — An Upper Darby woman was sentenced after pleading guilty to nearly shooting a man in the head and stealing his SUV with his infant still in the car, according to the Department of Justice.
Phillis Fugah, 25, was sentenced to 10 years and one day in prison after her guilty plea.
On Aug. 29, 2024, Fugah and a male accomplice approached a parked vehicle at the 7100 block of West Chester Pike. In the vehicle, a man and his two young children were waiting for his wife, the DOJ confirmed.
Fugah opened the driver’s side door, got behind the wheel, and pointed a gun at him while demanding money. His five-year-old son fled the vehicle and ran to the sidewalk while the victim got out of the car and tried to stop Fugah, telling her his infant was still in the car.
During the struggle, Fugah shot at the man and narrowly missed his head before shattering the driver’s side window.
The DOJ said she then stole the SUV with the baby still in the car. It was recovered a short distance away, and the baby was found unharmed.
Fugah will also serve five years of supervised release for her role in the carjacking.
