Strong winds forecasted for southwestern Ontario have resulted in advisories being issued in Windsor-Essex.
Heavy westerly or southwesterly gusts are expected throughout the day — and could further strengthen into the evening on Friday. Environment Canada says they could reach upwards of 70 to 90 km/h at times.
The special weather statement includes Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton.
The federal weather agency says the winds are expected to ease off overnight and that isolated utility power outages are possible as the system rips across our region.

Along Lake Erie — including Pelee Island — the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has put in place what’s referred to as a Shoreline Conditions Statement.

It says while lake levels are lower compared to previous years, there is still a concern for some damage with direct wave impact on shoreline structures and debris being thrown. And that there remains some risk of flooding and accelerated nearshore erosion along the Lake Erie shoreline including south Pelee Island as a result of increased wave activity.
Resident are encouraged to avoid areas where flooding is occurring. Same goes for rivers, streams and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events.
