“The Smuggler,” by Irish playwright Ronan Noone, is having its Pittsburgh premiere at the Carnegie Stage in Carnegie starting Friday.
It is being presented by Pittsburgh International Classic Theatre, the theater in residence at the Carnegie Stage..
An Irish tale in verse, “The Smuggler” is about a writer in an affluent summer colony in Massachusetts when tensions break out between migrant workers and the local community after a fatal car crash. The play asks the question, “What does it mean to be an American citizen today?”
Noone is the author of 10 plays and has received numerous awards for his work. He is an assistant professor at Boston University’s MFA playwriting program.
Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.; Monday at 7:30 p.m.; March 19-21, at 7:30 p.m. each day; and March 22 at 2 p.m.
