Eric Miller, 56, of Scranton, died after first responders pulled him from the Lackawanna River around noon Thursday, Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland said.
In a statement, Rowland said Miller entered the “swift current” of the river just before noon near the Mulberry Street bridge and traveled downstream approximately 1/4 mile before first responders pulled him from the water.
He was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he was declared dead after resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
Rowland said the man died as a result of drowning and hypothermia, but the manner of death is pending the completion of a Scranton Police investigation.
