Pennsylvania Department of Health Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen visited Maternal & Family Health Services in Scranton on Friday to highlight $12.3 million invested by Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration over three years to improve maternal and child health initiatives in the state. The administration’s efforts “increased postpartum depression screenings, identified and provided access to care for women with hypertension, and created grants to improve outcomes for Pennsylvania mothers and babies, among other improvements,” according to a state Department of Health press release. Shapiro’s 2026-27 budget proposal, meanwhile, would allocate an additional $7.5 million to “support enhanced programming initiatives and infrastructure,” with a portion of the proposed allocation aimed at assisting counties in preventing child deaths, per the state.
