SCRANTON, Pa. — Flowers are blooming in Scranton ahead of St. Patrick’s Day.
Dozens of volunteers were busy assembling thousands of corsages and boutonnières.
The flowers will be sent to local hospital patients and nursing home residents across the city, just in time for the holiday.
“It changes their day, it makes their day special. I have friends come and say, ‘My mom was in the hospital on St. Patrick’s Day, and she talks about it now. It was five years ago, and she still talks about it. Now, she still mentions that she got this flower.’ It’s nice to have, you know? And this area is really full of good people,” said Jerry Gilpatrick, volunteer.
The volunteers are expected to assemble nearly 4,000 corsages. They will be handed out next Tuesday on St. Patrick’s Day.
