DUBOIS, Pa. — (WJAC) A Pittsburgh couple is accused of working together to steal a vehicle from a DuBois convenience store earlier this month, police say.

According to criminal complaints filed by DuBois City Police, Jonathan F. Rivera, 34, and Victoria R. Lanese are charged in connection with the theft of a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse from the Sheetz at 701 East DuBois Avenue Wednesday.

Police say the vehicle’s owner briefly left the SUV running and unlocked while going inside the store. Surveillance video showed a silver Subaru Impreza pull in next to the Traverse, where a male passenger got out, looked inside the store, then drove away with in the SUV.

The Subaru, driven by Lanese, left the lot shortly after and followed the stolen vehicle.

Investigators later used traffic cameras and license plate information to identify the Subaru. Officers spotted the vehicle the following afternoon in DuBois and conducted a traffic stop, identifying Lanese as the driver and Rivera as the passenger.

Police say keys belonging to the stolen SUV were found in Rivera’s pocket, and items belonging to the victim were recovered inside the Subaru. Lanese also allegedly told officers the pair had been at the Sheetz earlier that morning.

Rivera and Lanese are facing theft and related charges.
