The Steelers have signed defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day to a two-year, $11 million contract
For the second straight offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves stuck waiting for a decision on legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers‘ NFL future. And yet, while that happens, the front office simply cannot stand pat and hope he makes up his mind soon. Instead, they have had to remain active to begin the offseason, and it’s led to some notable moves being made.
Regardless of who ends up playing under center for the Steelers next season, the front office is intent on ensuring that the roster around them is filled with talented players. On Friday night, Pittsburgh managed to land one of its top defensive targets in free agency, as it signed veteran defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day.
Steelers Sign Sebastian Joseph-Day to 2-Year, $11 Million Contract
Former Titans free-agent defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph Day is signing a two-year, $11 million deal with the Steelers, including $6 million this year, per agent Drew Rosenhaus.
A sixth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Joseph-Day didn’t play at all during his first year in the league with the Los Angeles Rams. He ended up earning a starting job out of training camp the following year, though, and he never looked back, as he made himself a key piece of the team’s defensive line alongside Aaron Donald, with the highlight of his career seeing him help the Rams win Super Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Over the past four seasons, Joseph-Day has spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, and Tennessee Titans. His production has waned as he’s moved around the defensive line, as he initially started his career at defensive tackle before shifting to defensive end. That versatility, however, helped him draw some serious interest in free agency.
Joseph-Day didn’t have a particularly strong season in 2025, as he racked up 41 tackles and two sacks, but it’s worth noting just how bad the Titans were. On a better team, there’s reason to believe that Joseph-Day is capable of authoring a bounce-back campaign, and he will be given an opportunity to do that with the Steelers after signing a two-year, $11 million contract with them on Friday night.

Pittsburgh’s defense is already loaded with talent, but even with that being true, the unit largely failed to meet expectations in 2025. The unit was heavily reliant on turnovers, and eventually, that came back to bite them in the playoffs. This offseason, the front office has made a concerted effort to revamp the depth of this group.
Playing alongside guys like T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Cameron Heyward should make life considerably easier for Joseph-Day moving forward. He will have to produce more moving forward, but assuming he does, this deal will be a big steal for the Steelers. Now, all eyes will turn back to Rodgers, as everyone awaits his decision on the 2026 campaign.
